Workspace Wednesday :: 17

Washi tape storage

I have moved my stash of washi around in several different kinds of containers for over a year now. I tried a tub, then a drawer, but I think this wire basket I picked up from the Target One Spot is currently working the best for me right now.

I keep my skinny washi tape in an open dish (you can see it to the side of the basket) because I know it will get lost in a basket. Especially the really skinny ones from Amy Tangerine.

One of the things I like about an open basket is that I can pretty much see all of my collection at once. It makes it easier to choose one that I want to use because I can look at it from all different angles. When it was in a drawer, I could only see the top layer and everything underneath was hard to see without pulling them out. With an open basket, even when my collection grows (because let's just get real, right?) I can still see what's underneath or even in the bottom layer because I can pick it up.

I am definitely one of those people that need to see things in order to remember that they exist. Hopefully this basket will make it easier for me to use what I already have in my washi stash.

In other news, I think I need more washi tape. :)

How do you store your washi tape?

Workspace Wednesday :: 16

I've been in a "pen" mood...

I am really enjoying my new Passion Planner so far, but it has also got me on a "pen" kick lately. I've been on a quest to find pens that are inky, but doesn't bleed through the paper. I've also been eyeing brush pens for awhile now too. I don't really need more pens, but maybe I do... :)

So far, I've found that Le Pens and Zig Markers do NOT bleed through the paper in a Passion Planner.

I had the chance to visit my favorite scrapbook store in San Diego, Paper Tales, over President's Day weekend and I basically bought one of each kind of Zig marker I could find. A calligraphy one, a brown "writer" one (because I only have 1 other brown marker), a grey brushable, and three Clean Color brush pens.

Initial thoughts:
  • I thought I would like the calligraphy one more, but the nib is pretty hard so you really have to press to get it inky and dark on the page.
  • The brushable is nice for chunky writing and doesn't seem to pick up the colors around it as much as I thought it would. (This is a good thing for me because I don't want it to blend with my black outlines.)
  • The brush pens are really nice. They actually write like and act like a brush. You can go very fine or thick. I need a little practice with them, but I think I might like these for calligraphy writing.
I'm not sure if the brush pens are meant to be more for COLORING because it seems a little tricky to WRITE with them, but maybe i just need practice.

Anyone else eyeing the new brush pens from Tombow? It seems to be all over IG lately since CHA.

Lastly, I also purchased a few Memento inks for my planner stamps. More things to be obsessed about! Agh! :)

Workspace Wednesday :: 15 :: Passion Planner

More thoughts on the Passion Planner this week:

I think the best thing about the Passion Planner is that it's got me thinking about some of my goals and dreams. There are things that you'll catch me saying, "Oh, I'll do that in my next life," or "If I were to do it again, I would be a ______." I'm often reminded that I still have plenty of time in this current life to do those things.

For example, for a large part of my life, I've daydreamed about being a children's book illustrator. Who knows, maybe if I put some things into action, it won't just be a dream. I think this is the reason why I wanted to try the Passion Planner out: to work on things that I am passionate about. Set some goals and work towards them. Things that seem impossible to me don't have to be if I make small steps in the right direction, right?

So here's to working on making the impossible, possible. The only thing stopping me is me and my insecurities. Plus, I won't know unless I try. Can't fail if I don't try.

Got a little creative with my planner this week. Trying out different pens to see what bleeds and what doesn't. The ZIG markers seem to hold up well and not seep through the paper. Also, incorporating some of my (zillion) Project Life cards from the Honey edition.

In other news, I am ready for the sun to be out longer. Natural light is hard to get when the sun sets so early. #spoiledSoCalGirl ;)

Workspace Wednesday :: 14 :: Passion Planner

My Passion Planner FINALLY arrived last Friday and I am so excited to be able to put it to work. I was checking my mailbox everyday for it three weeks and I was starting to think it was never going to get here.

I put my colored markers and stamps from Studio Calico's Agenda class (designed by Marcy Penner of HelloForever) to use to fill out my pages for last week.

Thoughts on the Passion Planner so far:

  • I would have loved the larger version because I used it with the pdf for the past few months, but my purse is heavy enough as it is. I got the smaller one to make it more portable and I'm glad I did because I know I'll use it more if I carry it with me. This is a reason why I couldn't get myself to spend the $$$ on a Filofax. Too bulky for my purse. And I have a HEAVY purse already because God knows, I find reasons to carry just about everything with me all the time.
  • The smaller size is really small. If you don't mind writing small, then it'll be fine for you, but I can see it being TOO small for some people.
    • It works out for me that the space is limited because then I don't feel the pressure to have to fill up every blank space with something like I would on a larger canvas.
  • I haven't made time to fill in the extras yet (road maps, goals and reflections), but I plan on getting to it at some point. It was one of the reasons why I wanted a Passion Planner in the first place.
  • I've been a little spoiled by my love of Moleskine journals and the beautiful leather covers, so the cover on the PP doesn't feel as nice to me. My order had three small ones crammed into an envelope so the elastic left an imprint on the cover. Other than that, it's pliable enough to squeeze in my Maika Goods bag and I think it'll hold up fine.
  • The paper quality is pretty good in the Passion Planner and holds up to some of my inkier pens without bleeding. I highly recommend using Le Pens because they usually don't bleed through paper, even thinner sheets of paper.

Workspace Wednesday :: 13

I finally found a working vintage typerwriter. My photographer friend had a yard sale and I'm so happy she put one aside for me.

I am really excited to use this to journal on my Project Life cards and I just love the way it looks and sounds.

YAY!!!

Workspace Wednesday :: 12

I finally made some time to craft last weekend after a few months of no crafting at all. Trying to carve out time for myself isn't always the easiest thing, especially when it's so late once the girls are down.

I had the chance to organize my roller stamps into a bigger container because I snatched up a couple more at my latest visit to Tuesday Morning. I also moved all of my tags into a big I found at the Target One Spot a few months ago.

Workspace Wednesday :: 11

I moved my labels to an open tray so it would be easier for me to sift through it and not have to do so much digging.

Love these hexagon trays that were in the Target dollar spot for months. Cute, bright colors and very functional too!

Anyone else spend more time organizing and re-organizing your craft stash instead of actually crafting?

*guilty as charged* over here. :)

Workspace Wednesday :: 10

This Disney album is taking a lot longer than I expected, but then again, having two little kids will definitely get in the way of crafting.

Especially little ones that touch and eat everything! :)

Workspace Wednesday :: 9

I found these perfectly-sized baskets to store my 6x6 paper pads.

I am also addicted to these as well. They are so perfect for Project Life. One little cut and I got myself a 4x6! :)

Workspace Wednesday :: 8

This is how I store my roller stamps.

I can't take credit for the idea of stamping them on packaging tags so I can remember what's on each stamp. I also don't remember where I got the idea from either.

I also think I need more roller stamps. *wink*

Workspace Wednesday :: 7

Keepin' it real this week.

And yes, I like to have multiple electronic devices while I work. One for music and/or movies... and another to check the dates and times of my photos while I craft.

Oh, and sometimes I use them to get distracted and check fb. Ha! #distracted

Workspace Wednesday :: 6

Amy Tan and Kelly Purkey visited San Diego earlier this year and taught a few classes at my favorite local scrapbook store, Paper Tales. Today's Workspace Wednesday post is when I came back from the classes and had all of my goodies spread out on my desk.

LOVE this stamp by Kelly Purkey. Anything to help celebrate my love for all things California is awesome.

Workspace Wednesday :: 5

Here are some of my favorite markers and pens.

I can be super picky about markers and pens.

They just have to have the perfect tip/point and the ink has to flow out of it smoothly. The ink has to absorb into paper in just the right way...

PLEASE tell me I'm not the only crazy person here! :)

Anyone else with me?

This is how I store my wood veneers.

I may or may not have an addiction to these.

I should have bought a bigger container. Hmm...

Workspace Wednesday :: 3

I am such a sucker for cute containers.

Who's with me? *raises hand*

Well, Target had this cute bowl and I just had to find something to store in it. I found that it did an excellent job of storing labels stickers.

These label stickers are designed by Marcy Penner and yes, I fussy cut them by hand. Sometimes I find it therapeutic. Other times, I wish Santa would send me a Silhouette Cameo.

Until then, I'll continue to fussy cut the stress away...

Workspace Wednesday :: 1

In an effort to breathe some new life into my blog, I would like to post some things that I've posted for Workspace Wednesday. These are a few months old, but I figured that it would be nice to catch up first.

So here we go...

This is what my tabletop usually looks like. I love having a really big desktop space because I'm a "spreader-outer" when I work. It doesn't help that I also like to SEE things because I also have the tendency to forget things that are out of sight.
